A group of Hollywood celebrities has released a nearly ten-minute video titled “America 250,” marking the nation’s 250th anniversary while urging Americans to resist what they describe as the “tyranny” of President Donald Trump’s administration.
The video features actors and filmmakers such as Mark Ruffalo, Ted Danson, and Judd Apatow, along with other well-known Hollywood activists.
Together, they read from Timothy Snyder’s 2017 book "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century.”
The project focuses on Snyder’s warning that democracy faces a critical “turning point” in the coming election season.
The author says he first wrote the book in November 2016 and sees the present moment as a decisive test for the Republic.
"Today, the Republic is 250 years old. Strange though it is for me, this book has been along with the Republic for the last 10 years. I wrote it in November of 2016," Snyder said in the video.
"As I look ahead to this coming November, I see a turning point for our Republic.”
Throughout the video, participants read selections from Snyder’s “lessons” on how to safeguard democracy.

The passages include admonitions such as “Do not obey in advance” and “Beware of the one-party state.”
The video’s release coincides with upcoming elections, and its creators emphasize civic vigilance as part of the celebration of America’s 250 years. Snyder shared the project on X, describing the anniversary as a call to renewal and unity.
"To celebrate a rebellion is to know that, from a flawed world, we can make new things. We can hold on, we can find each other, and not just imagine but create a much better America. It is a special 250th – it is ours," Snyder wrote in his post.
Mark Ruffalo, who has often used his platform for political advocacy, explained to Variety what drew him to take part in the project.

He framed his involvement as driven by hope for a fairer and more compassionate future.
"My hope is that after this very bad and corrupt time we are living through now, we move away from a government that caters to the wealthy and powerful and focuses on the needs, desires and dreams of the children and young people," Ruffalo said.
"Keep America moving toward its great promise and not the measly mistakes and cruelty of its past."
Other entertainers in the video also highlighted similar themes, linking Snyder’s historical reflections to contemporary political anxieties.
Each reading reinforces the message that civic responsibility and engagement remain central to preserving democratic values.

The “America 250” project arrives amid escalating debates about the country’s direction, freedom of speech, and political polarization.
While it presents itself as a tribute to American independence, it also positions celebrity voices against what they characterize as growing authoritarian tendencies in government.
The production’s choice to draw from Snyder’s widely cited book underscores its intellectual grounding.
“On Tyranny” became one of the most discussed texts in recent years for its application of twentieth-century lessons to modern times.
By combining excerpts from the book with star power, the video seeks both educational and emotional appeal.
It continues a long tradition of Hollywood performers using national milestones as opportunities to advocate for political involvement.
Supporters of the project describe it as a patriotic reflection aiming to spark collective awareness rather than partisan division.
At the same time, its criticism of current leadership ensures it lands squarely in the middle of the nation’s ongoing political discourse.
The celebration of America’s 250th anniversary provided the frame, but the underlying message remains about vigilance, participation, and reform.
Through their readings, the artists call for citizens to “beware,” “resist,” and “act” in defense of democratic principles.
The producers close with an emphasis on community and creativity, arguing that America’s imperfections can become opportunities for renewal.
Though presented as a commemorative piece, “America 250” functions equally as a rallying cry for engagement ahead of the elections.

Wow! A bunch of out of touch spoiled rotten Hollywood elites telling us what we need to do while relaxing and enjoying the best of what America can offer (wealth wise) from their gated and mansions.
Then they preach about how bad a one party system is although it’s a dream of these hypocrites.
I think these commies should spend more time focusing on cleaning up the playground of pedophiles and perverts that overwhelmingly make up their community rather than complaining about the very things that they rallied and donated to during the Obama and Biden years of destruction! And to all of them a big fat ‘F’ you!!!!
… and why they think we care, when we see their $$ and such are >OFF LIMITS<.
It’s amazing that these “Useful Idiots” are all about Socialism and such …
EXCEPT when it comes to “THEIR $$” – then it’s HANDS OFF!
Strange how that works with Socialist, really strange.
Just because Trump is a bit arrogant and quite forceful doesn’t mean that he’s a tyrant, or has any plans to become so.
Teddy Roosevelt was too! Most of our best presidents have been the same way.
