Speculation about a budding romance between Anyone But You co-stars Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney has been swirling ever since their undeniable on-screen chemistry captivated fans in 2023.

But according to Glen’s mom, Cyndy Powell, the rumors are completely unfounded.

“They’re definitely not together,” Cyndy told the Daily Mail on Tuesday, calling the persistent buzz surrounding the actors’ relationship “silly.”

She went on to emphasize that “nothing [is] going on behind closed doors,” putting to rest the idea that a secret romance might be brewing off-screen.

The two actors recently reunited in Dallas, Texas, where they were spotted together in the lead-up to Glen’s younger sister Leslie Powell’s wedding.

Their appearance at the family event reignited speculation online, especially after photos of them surfaced looking friendly and familiar. However, Cyndy clarified that Sydney wasn’t there as Glen’s date.

In fact, she explained that Sweeney had RSVP’d “a long time ago” and brought her best friend as her plus-one.

“We love Sydney. We’ve considered her just a really, really good friend,” Cyndy said. “We all were together so much, and we haven’t seen her in a long time. She’s really a friend and we all enjoy her.”

The Powell family’s connection to Sweeney appears to be rooted in genuine friendship rather than anything romantic.

Leslie, Glen’s sister and the bride, is said to be “really close friends” with Sydney, making her appearance at the wedding more of a family reunion than a romantic getaway.

As for whether anything could have ever developed between the two actors, Cyndy was candid: “They’ve known each other for so long and they’ve both been single and together and with other people,” she said.

“They could have made anything happen that they wanted to at any point.” In her eyes, if a romance were meant to be, it already would have happened.

Still, she remained respectful of their privacy, acknowledging that their personal lives are “none of [her] business.” But as a mom, she naturally hopes for the best for her son.

“Somebody that loves him unconditionally, and they take care of each other and live happily ever after,” she said wistfully. Yet she admitted that “it’s just not right now” for Glen, noting that he’s “too busy” at the moment to focus on dating seriously.

Glen, 36, has remained single since his split from model Gigi Paris in April 2023, which coincided with the filming of Anyone But You in Australia.

Meanwhile, Sydney, 27, recently called off her engagement to businessman Jonathan Davino. According to People, the split stemmed from conflicting priorities: Davino was ready to settle down, while Sydney was laser-focused on her career.

“She’s not ready to settle down,” an insider revealed. “They didn’t split because there is no love. They split because she just wants to focus on her career right now.”

Despite the breakup, Sweeney is reportedly thriving. “Most people would feel overwhelmed by her working schedule this year, but not Syd,” the source added.

“She’s all about working right now and very excited about all her projects.”

In short, both Glen and Sydney appear to be happily single and fully committed to their careers.
