An Indiana diner is drawing attention after alleging that a local restaurant added a surprise “b*tching fee” to their bill following a dispute over an incorrect drink order.
The charge appeared on a receipt shared to Reddit, alongside other items including a cheese pizza with pepperoni and three Miller Lite beers, as reported by The Daily Mail.

The customer explained the situation in a Reddit post, saying they originally ordered a Miller Lite, but the server mistakenly brought them a Bud Light. By the time the error was noticed, the server had already opened the Bud Light and was unable to exchange it.

“I ordered a Miller Lite and [the server] gave me a Bud Light,” the customer wrote. “But since she had already opened the Bud Light while walking towards my table she couldn’t just swap it out.”
The server reportedly gave the Bud Light for free and brought the correct drink, a Miller Lite, afterward.
The customer stated they had no intention of complaining until their friend pointed out the mistake, suggesting that the situation didn’t involve any actual “b*tching.”
“Honestly, there wasn’t any b*tching involved, so I don’t know what that was about,” the customer added.
The image of the receipt included a line item labeled “B*TCHING” with a $5 charge. The unusual fee sparked widespread commentary on Reddit. While some users found it humorous, others questioned the legality and professionalism of such a charge.

“This is funny, but also probably a crime,” one commenter wrote. “You can’t make up fake fees and then charge people’s cards. It’s wire fraud.”

Others joined in on the sarcastic remarks. “If you complain about that fee would you get another fee?” asked one user.
Another chimed in, “Better tack on a ‘Snitching Fee’ too, you tattle-telling b*tch.”
The post ignited broader conversations around hidden restaurant fees. Last year, a separate incident went viral when a TikTok user named Sean Lans shared that his friend was charged a $25 cancellation fee at a New York restaurant—even after they had arrived on time for the reservation.
Lans said his friend put her credit card on file while booking a table at a restaurant with a 24-hour cancellation policy. After arriving early and being seated, the woman suddenly fell ill, went to the restroom, and then left before ordering.

“We were 10 minutes early,” Lans explained in a video, noting that they told the waiter about the situation before leaving. Days later, his friend discovered the $25 charge had gone through.
When Lans contacted the restaurant, they stood by the charge, saying the policy was intended to prevent lost revenue from last-minute cancellations. “But you didn’t [cancel],” Lans recalled the restaurant telling them.
Lans said he later reread the policy and claimed it didn’t include a required minimum spend.
As customers continue to encounter surprise charges during dining experiences, these incidents highlight growing concerns over restaurant billing practices and customer service responses.
