In a newly released interview, former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight claimed that rapper Tupac Shakur’s ashes were rolled into a blunt and smoked by his close friends and family shortly after his death in 1996, as reported by The New York Post.

Knight made the statement from prison during an interview with People magazine, adding new and unusual details to the long-discussed aftermath of Shakur’s murder.

LOS ANGELES – AUG 29: Suge Knight arrives to the Mtv Video Music Awards on August 29, 2004 in Miami, FL.

According to Knight, who was driving the vehicle when Tupac was shot in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, the incident occurred only hours after the rapper died six days later at University Medical Center.

Knight alleged that he paid $1 million in cash to have Tupac’s body cremated immediately, following what he described as a forceful demand from Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur.

“She came up to me and said, ‘Get it done. Now,’” Knight told People. When he hesitated, citing that Tupac had expressed not wanting to be cremated, Knight said Afeni became adamant.

“She gave me one of those mama looks, like, ‘Shut your a** up and do what I said.’ Then she started cussing me out. ‘Get this sh*t done!’”

Knight said the cremation was arranged quickly. “I paid someone a million dollars cash to take care of it,” he said.

Knight then described a scene where Tupac’s ashes were passed around among close friends and family and rolled into a blunt. “His homies rolled him up.

They smoked him,” Knight said.

“You gotta understand, that’s what made sense. It was symbolic. It’s like… you keep part of him.”

Knight claimed that he was the only one who did not take part in the ritual, citing his probation status at the time. “I was so happy to say I was on probation — I couldn’t smoke,” Knight said.

“I told his mother, ‘Moms, I’d love to, but if I hit that, I’ll get in trouble.’ I was probably the only one who didn’t hit him.”

The shocking claim aligns with long-circulated rumors that Tupac’s friends, including members of the Outlawz, had smoked his ashes as a tribute—rumors that some of the group members have also previously echoed.

Knight also recalled that Tupac had envisioned a different type of funeral.

“He told me, ‘When I go, I want every rapper at my funeral to grab the mic. I want them to kiss me head to toe. Just like in ‘Life Goes On.’”

Knight is currently incarcerated in California, serving a 28-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter stemming from a 2015 incident in Compton.

The story, while bizarre, has reignited interest in the posthumous events surrounding Tupac Shakur’s death and legacy.
