Joe Rogan said overdose deaths in the United States have dropped sharply since President Donald Trump returned to office, pointing to federal drug interdiction efforts as a key factor in the decline.
Rogan made the remarks while discussing overdose data showing a steep reduction beginning in 2024 and continuing into 2025.
He said the drop was visible across overdose fatalities involving all drugs, not limited to a single substance.
“From the time Trump’s been in office, deaths by overdose have dropped off a cliff,” Rogan said.
“Look at that. Look at 2024 and leading into 2025 look at these. Are all deaths from overdoses.”
Rogan described the trend as striking when viewed over several years, noting that overdose deaths had reached a peak before turning downward.
“I mean, that’s kind of crazy. Like look at that from all drugs, which is the top one,” he said.
“Look at that drop. I mean, that’s crazy.”
He said the data showed overdose deaths rising through the early 2020s before reversing course.
“So you see the peak in was in 2022 or it looks like, actually 2020 between 2023 and 2024 that’s the peak where people are dying,” Rogan said.
Rogan emphasized that the decline coincided with Trump being back in office and described the shift as abrupt.
“And then from the time Trump’s in office, it’s taking a fucking sharp downturn,” he said.
He attributed the reduction in overdose deaths in part to aggressive enforcement actions aimed at disrupting drug trafficking routes, particularly maritime smuggling operations.
“And why is that?” Rogan said.
“Part of it’s because they’re blowing up these f**king boats that are bringing in all the drugs.”
Rogan said those enforcement efforts have targeted not only illegal narcotics broadly, but especially drugs contaminated with fentanyl, which has been linked to a significant share of overdose fatalities in recent years.
“And not just drugs, but drugs that are tainted with fentanyl,” he said.
Rogan framed the data as evidence that policy decisions and enforcement actions can have a direct impact on overdose deaths, describing the downturn as notable compared to the prior surge.
“I mean, that’s crazy,” Rogan said, referring again to the scale of the decline shown in the figures he cited.
