According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Gregory Anthony Zecca, 39, was taken into custody following a lengthy investigation into the July 19 shooting death of his 13-year-old son, Anthony.
The incident occurred during a UFC watch party at a friend’s apartment in Naples, Florida.

Investigators said Zecca has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence.
The aggravated manslaughter charge alone carries the possibility of a life sentence under Florida law.
In a news release, sheriff’s officials said Zecca had been drinking heavily throughout the day of the shooting and later ingested marijuana.
Authorities said the father and son were watching a UFC fight when Zecca repeatedly handled his firearm in close proximity to the child.
Police said Zecca brandished the gun several times, including “practicing drawing it from his waistband and dry-firing” it with no magazine inserted. At some point, investigators said, the magazine was placed back into the firearm.
Zecca then “discharged a single shot, fatally striking” Anthony, according to the sheriff’s office.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they reported a strong odor of alcohol and observed marijuana laid out “in plain view.” Subsequent testing showed Zecca’s blood alcohol content measured 0.116 — nearly twice Florida’s legal limit.
“This case underscores that devastating tragedy that can result from mixing firearms, alcohol, and drugs. Our hearts are with everyone affected by this loss,” Kevin Rambosk, sheriff of Collier County, said in a statement.
Following the shooting, Zecca was placed on a psychiatric hold after family members expressed concern that he could attempt to take his own life if left unattended.
Authorities did not disclose when he may have been released from the facility.
Zecca is the son of Francie Frane, whom Chapman married in 2021. The marriage came after both Chapman and Frane lost their previous spouses to cancer.
Zecca later joined Chapman’s bounty-hunting team and frequently shared social media posts showing himself and Anthony practicing at gun ranges.
Chapman’s attorney, Joseph Lesniak, described the case as a family tragedy in a statement provided to TMZ.
“This situation remains a devastating family tragedy,” Lesniak said. “We believe Greg loved his son deeply, and that this was a tragic accident — one that has left many lives permanently changed, especially Anthony’s and Greg’s.”
