Actress Jennie Garth is speaking publicly about her experience working with television producer Dan Schneider during the early 2000s, saying she had concerns about him while filming the WB sitcom “What I Like About You.”

As Decider reported, Garth made the comments during a recent appearance on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, where she reflected on her time on the show and her interactions with Schneider, who served as an executive producer.

“I got called in by Will Calhoun, who was one of the head executives of Friends, and he was doing a new show with Amanda Bynes,” Garth said.

“[Schneider] was also executive producing it. He was kind of the Amanda side of it; she had worked with him a lot on The Amanda Show and all the things. So, he had hooked his wagon onto her.”

Garth, who starred opposite Amanda Bynes on the series, said she felt uneasy about Schneider early on and sought to limit her direct communication with him. Bynes was a teenager at the time the pilot was filmed.

“I got bad vibes,” Garth said, describing her impression of Schneider.

She said she approached executive producer Will Calhoun with her concerns and requested to work directly through him instead.

“I said to Will, like, ‘I would rather just communicate solely with you. I trust you. I think that you have my best interests in mind, and I don’t feel that way with your partner. So I’d rather just be with you,'” Garth recalled.

“And he was like, ‘No problem.’”

Schneider was a prominent figure at Nickelodeon, known for creating several shows including “Drake & Josh,” “Victorious,” and “Zoey 101.”

He also worked extensively with Bynes during her time as a child actress on programs such as “All That” and “The Amanda Show.”

In recent years, Schneider has faced allegations of inappropriate conduct and hostile behavior from former Nickelodeon actors.

The claims were detailed in the documentary “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.” Actress Lori Beth Denberg alleged that Schneider “preyed” on her during her time on “All That.”

Schneider has denied the allegations, stating they are “wildly exaggerated and, in most cases, false.”

During the podcast, Shepard’s cohost Monica Padman asked Garth whether she had witnessed Bynes being harmed by Schneider. Garth responded that she had not observed that directly.

“Not specifically him. There were a lot of problems in the ecosystem of her,” Garth said.

“What I Like About You” aired for four seasons from 2002 to 2006, with Garth playing the older sister to Bynes’ character. Garth said she was grateful for the opportunity to take on the role following her earlier success on “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

“I was very lucky,” she said. “There was a huge stigma that followed all of us as actors. People weren’t willing to see us doing other things.”

Garth had previously declined to discuss Schneider publicly following the release of “Quiet on Set,” telling The Hollywood Reporter, “I don’t want to talk about Dan Schneider ever again in my life.”

Despite her concerns about Schneider, Garth expressed continued support for Bynes.

“I just love her, and I would love to see her at any point,” she said.
