The British Ministry of Defence has formed a partnership with Ukraine’s Avengers AI Labs, giving British companies access to a platform designed to train artificial intelligence for battlefield drones.
Officials in London said the agreement marks the first time Kyiv has opened its collection of wartime data to an outside government.
The arrangement centers on the machine learning infrastructure behind Ukraine’s rapid artificial intelligence development across the front.
Ukraine previously shared combat derived artificial intelligence training data with allies.
This partnership goes further by providing access to the infrastructure used to drive artificial intelligence innovation during the war.
The announcement arrived one month after U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham signed an artificial intelligence agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Burnham visited Kyiv with other allies to honor Ukraine’s independence day and pledge continued support to the country.
U.K. Defence Secretary Wes Streeting presented the partnership as both support for Ukraine and an opportunity for British technology companies.

He also pointed to what he witnessed during his recent visit to Kyiv.
“Ukraine is the frontline of freedom for us all. On my recent visit to Kyiv, I saw first-hand the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people,” Streeting said in a statement released Friday.
“I also saw the extraordinary innovation which is allowing them to repel Putin’s illegal and unprovoked invasion.”
Streeting said access to battlefield data would help British companies advance technology while strengthening security in both countries.

The platform offers firms a rare opening into a large collection of information produced under wartime conditions.
“This world-first access to real battlefield data will allow British companies to continue pushing the frontier of defence innovation, deterring our enemies and making us safer at home as well as further strengthening Ukraine,” Streeting said.
Avengers AI Labs contains an annotated dataset with more than 5 million battlefield frames. It also holds sensor information covering millions of object detections collected from combat environments.
The objects represented in the platform include tanks, artillery, air defense systems, infantry, Shahed drones and reconnaissance UAVs.
Ukrainian officials said the collection was built mainly with information from Ukraine’s DELTA battle management system.
The data comes with safeguards intended to protect personnel who remain in the fight.
According to Ukraine’s Defence Ministry, information is anonymized and released after a delay so its use does not endanger those still operating in the field.
British companies must also work within a secure perimeter established around the platform.
Ukraine’s MOD said participating firms cannot download the underlying dataset, limiting how the battlefield information can be handled outside the controlled environment.
The British defense ministry is inviting as many as a dozen companies to submit proposals explaining how they would use the platform. Officials are particularly interested in technology capable of remaining fully functional when communications are degraded or satellite navigation is unavailable.
That focus puts battlefield resilience at the center of the competition. Companies seeking access must show how Ukraine’s combat data could support systems expected to function despite disrupted communications or the loss of satellite navigation.
U.K. AI Minister Kanishka Narayan described the arrangement as the kind of direct cooperation the Taskforce was created to advance.
He said the partnership is intended to support Ukraine while strengthening British capability.
“It is exactly the kind of practical partnership the Taskforce was set up to drive, supporting our ally Ukraine while strengthening sovereign capability here in Britain,” Narayan said in Friday’s statement.
The agreement therefore combines controlled access, delayed data release and limits on downloading with a competitive call for British proposals.
Kyiv retains safeguards around the underlying collection while British firms gain access to the artificial intelligence infrastructure built from Ukraine’s battlefield experience.
For Ukraine, the deal represents its first decision to let a foreign country enter that machine learning environment.
For Britain, it provides participating companies with access to millions of battlefield frames and object detections while keeping the underlying data within Ukraine’s secure perimeter.
