WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Super PACs are increasing spending to help Gov. Kathy Hochul defeat Republican Bruce Blakeman by a wide margin.
- Hochul and the state Democratic Party have a combined $33 million in cash on hand.
- Outside groups supporting Hochul include organizations funded by the New York Apartment Association, Uber Technologies and environmental advocates.
- Strong and Safe New York has raised $5 million to support Blakeman and attack Hochul.
Super PACs supporting Gov. Kathy Hochul are pouring more money into her reelection campaign, hoping to deliver a commanding Democratic victory in New York and strengthen her hand against the party’s “radical” wing, as reported by The New York Post.
Hochul already holds a formidable financial advantage. Her campaign account and the state Democratic Party account have a combined $33 million in cash on hand as Election Day approaches.
Sources said Hochul wants to create substantial distance between herself and Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman.
The outside spending push comes amid concerns about voter enthusiasm and whether the race at the top of the ticket could affect other candidates.

Jay Martin, who oversees The Leadership for New York Super PAC, said voters have legitimate frustrations that Hochul must address.
“[People are] angry and they have a right to be. And I think the governor knows that and the government knows she has to respond to that,” Martin said.
Martin warned that the contest could remain close regardless of how either candidate performs.
“I think the election is going to be very tight, regardless of how good a race that the governor runs or Bruce Blakeman runs,” he told The Post Thursday.

“And so we believe that the governor needs support to make sure she has a mandate to push back against the more radical elements in the party,” Martin added.
Hochul also enjoys a massive voter registration advantage in heavily Democratic New York. Board of Elections figures show 6 million registered Democrats, 3.4 million voters unaffiliated with any party and 2.8 million registered Republicans.
No Republican has won a statewide race in New York since Gov. George Pataki in 2002.
Still, Martin said Hochul’s supporters are not taking victory for granted because incumbents face a “toxic environment” amid soaring prices.
The Leadership for New York Super PAC received a $3 million donation from the New York Apartment Association, a landlord and property managers group where Martin previously served as executive director.
That money is funding a 30-second advertisement scheduled to air Sunday during the Buffalo Bills game against the New England Patriots.
The spot attacks Blakeman as President Trump’s “biggest cheerleader,” according to a report first published by Politico.
“When Trump says ‘jump,’ Bruce shakes his pom-poms,” the advertisement’s narrator says.
Hochul recently announced that her campaign and the state Democratic Party raised $8.5 million over the summer.
That money is included in the overall $33 million war chest available with only weeks remaining before Election Day on Nov. 3.
Blakeman’s campaign had not released its latest fundraising figures, which were due Friday.
Meanwhile, Hochul and her allies are seeking a significantly larger victory than she achieved in 2022.
Hochul defeated Republican Lee Zeldin by six percentage points that year, a surprisingly narrow result in a state that leans politically left.
She performed poorly in the suburbs, while critics argued that the top of the ticket hurt local races and contributed to Democratic House losses in swing districts.
Other outside groups are spending heavily to avoid a repeat performance.
Fair and Affordable New York, a Super PAC bankrolled by Uber Technologies, is spending $3 million to promote Hochul.
Hochul, who has served as governor since 2021, pushed through a law earlier this year intended to rein in auto insurance costs.
The issue was a major priority for the driver app company.
Evergreen New York, an environmental advocacy PAC supporting Hochul, spent $270,000 during the past week attacking Blakeman, according to state election filings.
Blakeman also has outside financial support. Strong and Safe New York has raised $5 million and is spending heavily to promote the Republican challenger while attacking Hochul.
That group is funded largely by Knicks owner James Dolan. Retired casino magnate Steve Wynn also recently contributed $1 million.
Queens Borough President Donovan Richards predicted that Hochul would prevail despite growing scrutiny from the party’s liberal wing, which was energized by democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s election victory last year.
“Governor Hochul is going to run up the score in New York City. There’s been no better governor for Queens,” Richards said.
“Blakeman’s association with President Trump is going to hurt him.”
