WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Jordan Hope gave his own shoes to an elderly man he noticed walking outside a Maricopa Walgreens.
- Hope returned, bought the man candy, arranged transportation to lunch and stayed with him to talk.
- A video of the encounter spread across social media before Hope learned he had been filmed.
- Hope checks on the man daily, while a GoFundMe raised about $1,000 within one day.
A routine drive to the bank became an unexpected act of compassion for 18-year-old Jordan Hope in Maricopa. He pulled over outside a storefront to help an elderly stranger, unaware that someone nearby was recording the encounter.
On Sunday, Yareli Madrid filmed Hope stopping in a Walgreens parking lot near John Wayne Parkway and Smith-Enke Road. Hope had noticed the older man walking with shoes that were barely staying on his feet.
The video soon traveled across social media, including The Original City of Maricopa, AZ Page on Facebook, as users tried to identify the young man. By the following day, Hope learned his quiet decision had become an online sensation.
“Watching this young man take the shoes off his own feet and give them to an older man who needed them truly touched my heart,” Madrid wrote.
“What makes it even more special is that he did it without anyone watching, without cameras, without expecting recognition or praise. He simply saw someone in need and helped from the goodness of his heart.”
Madrid also addressed Hope’s parents directly: “If this is your son, you did something right. Please know he is amazing.”
Hundreds of comments followed, including one from a person who said they recognized Hope as a former student. That response eventually led the post back to Hope.
“I had no idea,” Hope said. “I saw a truck facing me, and I did not know what they were doing.”

Hope had been heading to the bank to deposit money when he saw the man’s damaged shoes. “I looked at his feet, and his shoes were like maybe a fourth of his foot,” he said.
“I just felt like God told me to go over there, turn around and just give him some new slides,” Hope said.
“So I took off my own shoes. I gave them to him, and I just felt like I brought maybe a peace in his life.”
After initially driving away, Hope felt compelled to turn around and found the man inside Walgreens trying to buy candy. Hope purchased it for him and learned that the man’s wife had died only two weeks earlier.

“That honestly broke my heart,” Hope said. “I just think he needed a friend...”
Hope then offered to take the man to lunch at Culver’s, but a medical condition causing severe leg swelling made getting into Hope’s car difficult. Hope called a rideshare, met him at the restaurant, collected the food, followed him home and stayed to talk.
“So he didn’t feel that loneliness, you know?” Hope said. He has remained in contact with the man and checks on him by phone every day.
🚨WOW!!!
An 18-year-old saw an 80-year-old man with a walker crossing a busy Arizona road in shoes that were FALLING APART... ...so he pulled over, took the shoes OFF HIS OWN FEET, and gave them to him!!! He found out the man had just lost his wife, bought him dinner, sat with him for hours, invited him to church, raised him $10,000 and now they talk on the phone EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!! “I just felt like God told me to go over there.” His name is Jordan Hope. He’s a recent high school graduate from Maricopa, Arizona who runs his own computer-building business. He was on his way to the bank to deposit some money when he drove past a Walgreens on John Wayne Parkway. Then he saw the man’s feet. “His shoes were like maybe a fourth on his foot.” So Jordan pulled over, got out, and took off his own size 13 Nike slides and he handed them over and stood there in the road in his socks. “I just felt like God told me to go over there.” He had NO IDEA a woman named Yareli Madrid was filming the whole thing from the parking lot. He drove off, but something told him to turn back. He found the man inside the Walgreens, helped him pick up his prescription, and bought him his favorite candy. Peanut M&Ms. Jordan took time to speak to the man and that’s when Jordan learned the man’s wife had passed away just TWO WEEKS earlier. “That honestly broke my heart.” The older man's name is Roy, he’s 80 years old. Jordan offered to take him to lunch at Culver’s, but a medical condition makes Roy’s legs swell so badly he couldn’t get into Jordan’s car. So Jordan called him a rideshare and met him at the restaurant, they picked up the food, followed him ALL THE WAY HOME. ...and then he stayed, just to talk. “So he didn’t feel that loneliness, you know?” Someone posted the video trying to find out who this young man was, with a message for his parents: “If this is your son, you did something right.” Now Jordan calls Roy EVERY SINGLE DAY to check on him and a GoFundMe for Mr. Roy has already raised over $10,000+ for groceries and expenses. The two of them are even talking about going to church together. ❤️ Jordan says this wasn’t his plan, he says God “interrupted my plans for that day to carry on his plans.” He’s EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD. GOD BLESS Jordan Hope, and GOD BLESS Mr. Roy. THIS IS THE AMERICA I KNOW!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 — Matt Van Swol (@mattvanswol) October 11, 2026
A GoFundMe created on the man’s behalf raised about $1,000 within one day of launching. Hope said the money would help cover groceries and other expenses.
Asked why he stopped when others might have continued walking, Hope credited his parents, his youth pastor, and his faith. “It wasn’t something out of my comfort zone,” he said.
“I knew a tug pulled on my heart, and it was definitely from God... He interrupted my plans for that day to carry on his plans.”
Hope is a recent high school graduate who runs a computer building business in Maricopa and Casa Grande. He also rejected the idea that younger people do not care about others.
“People say that this newer generation is just like they don’t care, you know? But I don’t believe that,” Hope said.

“I believe that we’re hungrier and we just want to help as much as we can, and we need to be that light.”
Hope hopes to continue building his business while remaining active as a leader at his church. “I’m just a man trying to spread positivity in the Lord’s work,” he said.
