Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has revisited the viral 2016 video that showed her staggering and appearing to nearly faint after leaving a 9/11 commemoration ceremony in New York. Speaking Wednesday, Clinton conceded that continuing to campaign while suffering from pneumonia was a mistake, as reported by Fox News.
Clinton discussed the episode with Kara Swisher on their new joint podcast. Their conversation began with Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico and his nine-day absence from the campaign trail after he said he contracted the flu.
Talarico’s absence from public appearances helped fuel a viral online rumor that he had secretly been admitted to an Ohio mental health facility. Clinton and Swisher called the claim “easily disproven.”

Clinton compared the episode to the response she received after the 2016 video spread online during her presidential campaign. She argued that critics portrayed her as being “on death's door.”
Swisher claimed President Donald Trump was “quantumly sicker” than Clinton had been, though “they hide it,” before asking Clinton to respond. Clinton then described receiving her pneumonia diagnosis and being advised to stop campaigning temporarily.
“They tested me, and they said, 'Oh, you've got pneumonia. You need to take like five or six days off.'” Clinton recalled. Her doctor told her that taking time away was what she should do.
Clinton said she resisted the recommendation because she was campaigning and believed she needed to attend the 9/11 ceremony. She cited the importance of the date to her because she had been a senator during the attacks.

“But I'm campaigning, and I have to show up on 9/11 because it means a lot to me since, as you know, I was a senator [during the attacks]. So, I kept going, which was a mistake,” Clinton said.
The video showed Clinton struggling as she attempted to reach a vehicle and leave the ceremony. She said the footage captured her trying to get to the car so she could catch her breath and recover.
“They did have the video of me struggling to get to the car to be able to, you know, take some breaths and recover myself,” Clinton said the episode quickly dominated both social media and traditional media coverage.
“From my perspective, it worked because it was just papering social media, papering traditional media.” She added, “‘I was dying. I was lying about my health.’”
Clinton then turned her criticism toward Trump, accusing him of failing to provide an honest account of his health. “This is from a guy who has never given us an honest medical report ever. Ever.”
A law enforcement source at the time described Clinton as “clearly having some type of medical episode.” She appeared to fall while heading toward a van and needed help from security personnel.
Clinton’s campaign later released a statement confirming that the former first lady was battling pneumonia and had “felt overheated” during the ceremony. The campaign had not disclosed the diagnosis before the highly visible incident.
Clinton and her campaign subsequently faced criticism from members of the press for waiting to reveal her condition. They also drew criticism over their handling of media inquiries surrounding the episode.
Fox News Digital reached out to Clinton’s team for comment. The source provided no response from her team.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle responded by telling Clinton that she should move beyond the 2016 presidential election. He contrasted Trump’s health and public schedule with what he described as concealment surrounding former President Joe Biden.
“President Trump’s sharpness, unmatched energy, and historic accessibility stand in stark contrast to what we saw during the last administration, when Democrats and the legacy media intentionally covered up Joe Biden’s serious mental and physical decline from the American people,” Ingle told Fox News Digital.

“President Trump is working nonstop to solve problems and deliver on his promises, and he remains in excellent health.” Ingle then took direct aim at Clinton’s continued discussion of her election loss.
“Meanwhile, Crooked Hillary Clinton is still whining about her spectacular 2016 election defeat. It’s time for Hillary to move on.”
Clinton’s recollection brought the notorious campaign moment back into view while adding her own admission about the decision behind it. Despite medical advice to rest, she kept campaigning and attended the ceremony, a choice she now plainly calls a mistake.
