ROCHESTER, Minn. The older sister of embattled Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., skipped a scheduled Minnesota appearance for her immigrant memoir as the congresswoman faced fallout from a federal raid on her Washington, D.C., home, as reported by Fox News.

Sahra Noor was scheduled to appear Thursday night at the University of Minnesota Rochester.

The event came during a turbulent week for Omar, who faces a federal probe involving potential immigration fraud and a separate investigation into her financial disclosures.

Noor came to the United States as a refugee with Omar and other family members during the 1990s. She was reportedly subpoenaed in connection with the immigration investigation involving her sister.

According to Noor's LinkedIn page, she currently lives in Nairobi, Kenya. She has been conducting a worldwide tour to promote her memoir, “Salt in the Snow: A Somali Immigrant Story.”

Fox News Digital contacted Noor for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication. Her scheduled Rochester appearance was promoted through a flyer posted on Facebook by Garden Party Books.

The event was listed for 6:30 p.m. at the Intercultural Student Center on the University of Minnesota Rochester campus. Yet when Fox News Digital arrived, the space was completely empty.

Fox News Digital had previously submitted an RSVP through a QR code included on the flyer. No communication was received saying the appearance had been canceled, rescheduled or moved to another location.

Neither the University of Minnesota Rochester nor Garden Party Books responded to requests for comment. The reason for Noor's absence was not disclosed, leaving the scheduled tour stop abandoned without warning.

The flyer identified Garden Party Books, the University of Minnesota Bookstores and the Rochester Public Library as “proud supporters” of the appearance. It described Noor as a “poet, storyteller and health system leader.”

The promotional material called Noor's memoir a “story of migration, motherhood, grief and family.” Her website said the book was officially launched at an event in a Nairobi bookstore on Aug. 13, 2026.

Noor also appeared at a festival in Cape Town, South Africa, in early September to promote the book. Her United States tour included an Oct. 1 event in Minneapolis and another appearance five days later at the University of Minnesota.

She hosted an event in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Oct. 7. Her next scheduled appearance is set for Oct. 23 at the Somali Community Cultural Innovation Hub in Seattle.

The Rochester no-show occurred days after federal agents searched Omar's Washington residence. Homeland Security Investigations, the leading investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, executed a search warrant beginning around 6:00 a.m. Monday.

A source familiar with the operation told Fox News Digital about the raid. They said that the investigation concerns whether Omar or her late father, Nur Mohamed, fraudulently completed her citizenship paperwork decades ago.

Two sources said the investigation could lead to the congresswoman's denaturalization. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that agents seized Omar's phone, passport, and computers during the search.

Omar has not been seen publicly since Monday's raid, according to the report. When her husband was asked Wednesday outside their home about rumors that she had fled the United States, he reacted sharply to the question.

The congresswoman described the search as an “outrageous abuse of power.” She also called it an “unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies.”

Noor's unexplained absence added another scene to a chaotic week surrounding Omar and her family. A promoted book event sat empty, organizers offered no public explanation, and neither Noor nor the institutions involved responded before publication.
