The controversy surrounding socialite Amy Griffin’s memoir reportedly erupted at Jennifer Meyer’s celebrity-packed wedding, where entertainment journalist Billy Bush says the author confronted him over his coverage of her legal dispute, as reported by Page Six.
Bush, 55, described the encounter during Monday’s episode of his “Hot Mics” podcast. He accused Griffin, 49, of attempting to put him in his place and embarrass him before hundreds of wedding guests.
According to Bush, Griffin was “telling anyone who would listen not to talk to” him at the event. The journalist has publicly questioned the truthfulness of claims contained in Griffin’s 2025 memoir, “The Tell.”
The book recounts Griffin’s rape in middle school by a childhood teacher. Griffin claims she recovered the memory decades later through therapy involving MDMA.
Griffin, a venture capitalist, is being sued by a former classmate who alleges the sexual abuse described in the memoir mirrored her own experience. The woman claims Griffin took the story from her childhood.
Griffin has denied adopting the woman’s trauma as her own. She filed a defamation countersuit in June, while Bush continued covering the dispute through his podcast.
At Meyer’s wedding in Hawaii, Bush claimed he spotted Demi Moore trying to persuade Griffin to speak with him. He recalled Moore saying, “It’s OK, you can go talk to him.”
Bush continued, “Like, ‘Amy, it’s alright, stop!’ This whole scene is unfolding. And then finally, [Griffin] comes at me.” Representatives for Griffin, Moore and Meyer did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.

During the alleged confrontation, Bush said Griffin stumbled and sent her purse and its contents flying. He described her as “shaking” and “sweating” when she approached him and said, “You don’t know me.”
Bush claimed Griffin then criticized him for suggesting that she had plagiarized the artwork used on her book cover. He said he attempted to stop the confrontation from escalating during Meyer’s celebration.
“OK, I can see you’re upset. I don’t think this is the time nor the place to have this discussion. I’d love to talk to you on the record and/or off. Either way, at another time, but not now,” Bush recalled telling her.
Bush maintained that he remained “calm and cool the whole time.” He also claimed other guests praised how “beautifully” he managed the uncomfortable exchange.
According to Bush, Griffin also approached his girlfriend during the wedding. She allegedly asked her, “How could you be with someone who’s abusing me?… He’s doing this for his entertainment.”
Bush responded harshly on his podcast, criticizing what he called Griffin’s “narcissism” and “nerve.” He said, “This is another woman’s wedding. Imagine making it all about you, right?”
Although Bush attacked Griffin’s behavior, he offered a warmer assessment of her husband, John Griffin. “I felt that he was nice, he was reasonable, even-tempered and, let’s just be real, husband of the century,” Bush quipped.
Meyer and Geoffrey Ogunlesi married on the island of Lanai on Oct. 10. Leonardo DiCaprio, Courteney Cox and other prominent stars attended the ceremony, which was officiated by Meyer’s former husband, Tobey Maguire.
Meyer defended the “unconventional” arrangement in a Vogue interview Thursday and described Maguire’s role as “so special.” Bush also praised Maguire, 51, for delivering “funny and self-effacing” remarks from the altar that gave him “hope for humanity.”
The wedding therefore became the setting for two sharply different moments in Bush’s telling. He celebrated Maguire’s remarks and John Griffin’s demeanor while portraying his encounter with Amy Griffin as an unwanted spectacle during Meyer’s ceremony.
