A hilarious story is going viral this week about a cowboy who got the last laugh after he was shamed for what he wore to church.

On one Sunday morning, an elderly cowboy walked into an upscale church in the wealthy part of his city.

Though his outfit was spotlessly clean, he showed up wearing  jeans, a denim shirt and boots that were very worn and ragged.

His clothing was in stark contrast to the rest of the congregation, who were all wearing expensive clothing and accessories.

When the cowboy walked into church, nobody greeted him, and everyone moved away from him as soon as he found a seat.

The wealthy congregants made no attempt of hiding the fact that they were appalled by the cowboy's appearance.

After the service ended, the pastor approached the cowboy and asked him to do one favor for him.

“Before you come back in here again, have a talk with God and ask him what he thinks would be appropriate attire for worship," the pastor said.

The cowboy promised that he would do that.

The next Sunday, the pastor got to the church once again wearing the same ragged jeans, shirt, and boots.

The entire congregation shunned him just as they did the week before, and after the service ended, the pastor walked up to the cowboy for a second time.

“I thought I asked you to speak to God before you came back to our church," the pastor said.

"I did," the cowboy replied.

“If you spoke to God, what did he tell you proper attire should be for worshiping in here?” asked the preacher.

“Well, sir, God told me that He didn’t have a clue what I should wear. He said He’d never been in here before," the cowboy fired back.

Ouch, that has got to hurt!

This congregation needed to hear this desperately, as they have clearly forgotten what the true meaning of church is.
