Meghan Markle’s attempts to revamp her public image appear to have failed spectacularly.

A new poll from the reputable firm YouGov has delivered a devastating blow to the Duchess of Sussex, confirming what many royal watchers have suspected: her popularity in the United Kingdom has plummeted to its lowest point ever.

Conducted between May 6 and May 7, the poll revealed that only 20% of Britons have a favorable view of Meghan. In stark contrast, 65% of respondents expressed an unfavorable opinion of her, resulting in a net approval rating of -45—a humiliating figure by any standard.

“New YouGov data shows that favorability towards Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is at its lowest point since it started being tracked in 2017,” the company noted in its release.

The sentiment behind the numbers is clear: Meghan’s public charm offensive in 2025 has not resonated with the British public.

Adding salt to the wound, Meghan’s husband Prince Harry didn’t fare much better.

The same poll showed that only 27% of respondents had a positive view of Harry, while 63% viewed him negatively, giving him a net rating of -36.

YouGov pointed to recent events that may have played a role in his declining popularity.

“Following the recent failure of his protection case and subsequent interview with the BBC, Prince Harry is also seen negatively by the British public,” the polling organization stated.

“The latest YouGov royal favorability tracker poll finds that only 27 percent of Britons have a positive opinion of Prince Harry, with 63 percent having a negative view of him, his worst score since early 2023.”

Interestingly, while Harry and Meghan remain somewhat more popular among younger people, even that demographic is showing signs of fatigue. Among 18 to 24 year-olds, Meghan holds a net approval rating of -2, and Harry sits at net zero.

These figures suggest that even younger generations, traditionally more sympathetic to the couple, are growing weary of their public antics.

The numbers are especially grim among the over-65 demographic, where 86% of respondents dislike Meghan and 81% dislike Harry. It’s a harsh reflection of how deeply their standing with the public has deteriorated.

These unfavorable ratings come despite—or perhaps because of—Meghan’s high-profile efforts in 2025 to reposition herself in the public eye.

Earlier this year, she launched a Netflix cooking series titled With Love, Meghan, hoping to showcase her personal side.

Unfortunately, the show was panned by both fans and critics, failing to generate the kind of buzz she likely hoped for.

Meghan also rolled out a new podcast titled Confessions of a Female Founder, an entrepreneurship-focused series that was meant to spotlight women in business.

But here too, she struggled to attract a significant audience, with lukewarm reception and limited traction among listeners.

Meanwhile, the contrast between Meghan and Harry’s dwindling popularity and the glowing public perception of Prince William and Princess Kate couldn’t be starker.

According to the same YouGov poll, Kate Middleton is liked by 72% of respondents and disliked by only 13%, giving her a net approval of +59. Prince William’s numbers are even slightly better, with 75% viewing him positively and only 16% negatively, also landing him a net rating of +59.

It’s clear that while Meghan and Harry have distanced themselves from the monarchy—and taken frequent shots at the Royal Family through interviews, a Netflix docuseries, and Harry’s memoir Spare—the public has not been impressed with their crusade.

Many see their actions as self-serving and destructive, rather than courageous or reformative.

The Sussexes’ ongoing feud with William and Kate, and their departure from royal duties in 2020, may have originally stirred sympathy. But over time, their constant criticism of the monarchy appears to have worn thin with the British public.

Their relocation to Southern California and pivot to Hollywood-style projects has only added to the perception that they are more interested in fame than duty.

As public opinion turns increasingly negative, one has to wonder whether Harry and Meghan can ever recover the goodwill they once enjoyed.

For now, the numbers speak for themselves—and they’re not on the couple’s side.

Whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex can rehabilitate their image or are destined to remain polarizing figures remains to be seen.

But if this latest poll is any indication, it’s going to be an uphill battle.
