Trump weighed in on the ad via a post on Truth Social, calling it the âHOTTESTâ ad currently running.
The campaign, which features Sweeney posing in denim with the tagline âgreat jeans,â sparked backlash from left-wing commentators, some of whom attempted to frame the campaign as politically charged. Trumpâs post directly addressed that controversy.
âSydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the âHOTTESTâ ad out there,â Trump wrote. âItâs for American Eagle, and the jeans are âflying off the shelves.â Go get âem Sydney!â

Sweeney, 27, is best known for her roles in television and film, including the HBO series Euphoria. According to public voter registration records in Monroe County, she registered as a Republican in June 2024.
President Trump contrasted the success of the American Eagle campaign with what he described as a series of failed marketing efforts by other companies that have embraced left-wing activism.

He cited Jaguar and its recent ad campaign, which he labeled âseriously WOKE,â adding that the campaign had resulted in the resignation of the companyâs CEO and what he called âabsolute turmoilâ for the brand.
âWho wants to buy a Jaguar after looking at that disgraceful ad?â Trump asked. âShouldnât they have learned a lesson from Bud Light, which went Woke and essentially destroyed, in a short campaign, the Company?â
He continued by referencing the financial collapse of Bud Light following its 2023 marketing controversy, stating that the company suffered âmarket cap destructionâ with âBILLIONS OF DOLLARS SO FOOLISHLY LOST.â

Trump also revisited his criticism of singer Taylor Swift, saying that she was âbooed out of the Super Bowlâ and has become âNO LONGER HOT.â He concluded his message by stating, âBeing WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.â
Sweeney has not publicly commented on either the ad backlash or Trumpâs endorsement.
The marketâs response to Trumpâs post was immediate, with American Eagleâs stock climbing 20% by the close of trading Monday.
