Influencer Kerolay Chaves recently faced backlash after being kicked out of a supermarket in Belo Horizonte, Brazil for wearing “too short clothes”. She took to social media to file a complaint and shared that she was “bullied” by customers and “finally” kicked out of the store.

“I think it’s absurd that we women are still treated this way just because we dress how we want,” she wrote in her post. “Truth is, we go through it because we’re too hot, that’s all!”

While the reason for her removal from the store may seem self-explanatory based on the pictures of her outfit, Kerolay was met with a lot of backlash for her comments. In response, she pointed out that the hate she received was due to “hot woman phobia” which she faces on a daily basis.

“I felt offended by the gratuitous hate I received both in the market and on my Instagram. I think all these insults have more to do with the ‘hot woman phobia’ I face on a daily basis,” she said.

Despite the criticism she faced, Kerolay’s followers rallied around her and praised her for taking a stand against discrimination towards women. Many pointed out that her outfit was not inappropriate and that she had every right to wear what she wanted. “You have the right to use what you want, and it's not up to anyone else to judge,” one follower commented on her post.

This incident highlights a larger issue of discrimination towards women based on their appearance. Society often places unfair expectations on women to dress a certain way and punishes them for deviating from those expectations. It’s important to remember that everyone has the right to dress as they please without fear of judgement or discrimination.

Kerolay’s bravery in speaking out against this discrimination is commendable. Despite facing backlash, she stood up for herself and other women who have faced similar treatment. It’s time for society to recognize and address the harmful effects of “hot woman phobia” and work towards creating a more inclusive and accepting environment for everyone.
