California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s communications director, Izzy Gardon, drew attention over the weekend after appearing to refer to rapper Nicki Minaj as a “stupid hoe” following her public criticism of the Democratic governor and his support for transgender-related policies, as reported by Fox News.

The exchange began Friday when Minaj posted a series of comments on social media responding to remarks Newsom made in a recent interview with New York Times columnist Ezra Klein.

In that interview, Newsom discussed his support for legislation affecting transgender youth and said he wanted to “see trans kids.”

Minaj sharply criticized that framing in a post on X.

“Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids,” Minaj wrote.

“Not even a trans ADULT would run on that. Normal adults wake up & think they want to see HEALTHY, SAFE, HAPPY kids. Not Gav. The Gav Nots. GavOUT. Send in the next guy, I’m bored.”

She went on to suggest that Newsom’s political future was coming to an end.

“Oh Gavvy pooh, it only gets worse from here for you, buddy. It’s the end of the road for you, my love,” Minaj wrote.

“Get on the nearest jet ski & let that beautiful hair blow in the wind. It will make you happier than this race that you will not win. Enjoy life. Peace.”

On Saturday, Gardon appeared to respond indirectly to Minaj’s comments by posting an image on X of a T-shirt featuring Minaj’s name and face depicted in a trash bin. Gardon captioned the image with the words, “Stupid Hoe.”

“Stupid Hoe” is also the title of a song by Minaj that was released in 2011 and is sometimes referred to as “Stupid Stupid.”

After criticism followed, including from California Republican state Rep. Carl DeMaio, Gardon defended his post and denied that he was attacking Minaj personally.

“Any certified homosexual would know Stupid Hoe is Nicki Minaj’s best song. We may need to take your gay card away, Carl. Your infractions are becoming insufferable,” Gardon wrote in a follow-up post.

Minaj did not directly respond to Gardon’s comments but continued posting criticism of Newsom and his political team, accusing them of focusing their attention on her rather than addressing substantive issues.

“Career politician at the brink of his moment realigns to become nothing more than a Nicki Minaj ANTI. OOF,” Minaj wrote in one post.

“So now he’s the guy running on ‘wanting to see trans kids’ AND willing to lower himself to becoming just another FEMALE RAPPER to get obliterated by NICKI MINAJ. #FREEChristians #NewScum.”

In another post, Minaj wrote, “They’re ready to make a career politician with everything to lose throw it all away—just like they did to everyone else before him—just to go against me. What’s wild is that he can’t see how this will end. I must be a pretty powerful gal. Praise God. It is well.”

The back-and-forth highlights the increasingly public clashes between high-profile entertainers and political figures over cultural and policy issues, particularly surrounding gender identity and education-related legislation.

Newsom has made support for transgender policies a visible part of his national profile, while critics have increasingly questioned that focus.

Fox News Digital reached out to representatives for both Minaj and Newsom for comment on the exchange. Neither party had responded at the time of publication.
