A world-renowned nudist retreat in the South of France has stirred outrage among longtime visitors as globe-trotting swingers flood its beaches. Regulars say the growing wave of sexually explicit behavior has transformed Cap d’Agde from a naturist sanctuary into a spectacle of public acts in the sand, as reported by the New York Post.
The village, celebrated as one of the largest naturist destinations in the world, is now drawing a different crowd altogether. Visitors describe hordes of tourists known for brazen displays that have quickly altered the once-peaceful culture.

Barbara, a British regular who frequented the resort with her husband for decades, told the Sun that the atmosphere is “far more exclusive,” with clear divisions between traditional nudists and newcomers. She said the shift is undeniable since her first visit about thirty years ago.
Cap d’Agde, often dubbed the “naked city,” has long attracted people comfortable strolling, shopping, and dining without clothes. However, recent visitors claim explicit scenes now occupy spaces once meant for relaxed sunbathing.
Despite clear signage warning against “sexual exhibitionism,” local nudists say the notices and fines do not stop what they describe as relentless, seedy activity. The sense among them is that enforcement has not kept pace with the behavior.
The growing frustration has led some visitors to drastically limit their time at the beach. Barbara said she now restricts trips to the height of summer when the presence of authorities is strongest, but she no longer goes near the sand.
“Both security, lifeguards, and police are in the tower during the summer months, all day long,” she said. Her routine now revolves around staying away from the areas most affected by the chaos.
During peak season, Cap d’Agde welcomes about forty thousand visitors per day. That massive influx has raised concerns among locals and regulars who argue that the destination’s original naturist appeal is being overshadowed.

The growing divide appears to have hardened over time. Veterans of the resort say younger and international guests treat it more as an adult playground than a haven for body positivity or a naturist lifestyle.

Others believe the area’s global reputation and unique freedom were always bound to attract diverse crowds. For those who have visited for decades, though, the current state feels like a departure from its roots.
Locals pointing to the transformation say the effect on community dynamics is unmistakable. With reports of voyeurism and public acts now commonplace, long-term residents express concern for the destination’s identity.
Even as security measures expand, many insist the spirit that once defined Cap d’Agde has changed. For now, it remains a place caught between two worlds—one of serene naturism and another dominated by uninhibited spectacle.
