Brendan Fraser confirmed he is getting back into “shape” for his long‑anticipated return in The Mummy 4, delighting fans who have waited years for news about the beloved adventure series.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fraser did his best to keep details under wraps while still sharing his excitement about the project.
“I was hopeful for a long while, and then I was like, ‘I don’t know if they are,’” he told Fallon, referring to earlier uncertainty about the sequel’s development.
He continued, “Then other Mummy movies got made. But listen, what we’re gonna do is saddle back up, go back to the locations. I should probably stop talking like this, because I don’t want to give everything away.”
Moments later, Fraser playfully added, “However, please wish me luck. I’m doing my best to get this 57‑year‑old gear in shape.”

The actor’s humor drew cheers from the studio audience, who reacted warmly to the confirmation that the original Mummy team would reunite.
Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to reprise their iconic roles as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan, returning more than two decades after their last appearance together.

Directors Matt Bettinelli‑Olpin and Tyler Gillett revealed that both stars were immediately drawn to the new script written by David Coggeshall, known for Orphan: First Kill.
Gillett told Entertainment Weekly, “William [Sherrick, the producer, was] always way ahead of us. And he was like, ‘Hey, I think I’m gonna get us Mummy.’ In our heads, we’re going, ‘That’d be f****** crazy. There’s no way William’s gonna pull it off.’”
Bettinelli‑Olpin added that the screenplay “had all of the heart and the character that you could hope for” and credited it for securing Fraser and Weisz’s return.
“I don’t think Brendan and Rachel are getting involved unless they love that script,” Bettinelli‑Olpin said. “And what they read, I think they really liked. It’s a good script. It’s gonna be fun to make.”
Earlier in the year, Gillett described the upcoming installment to Empire as “beautiful and sweeping and scary and fun,” teasing a fresh but faithful revival to the original’s tone.
Fraser himself had previously hinted that he was open to returning, telling Deadline, “Hey, anything’s possible at this point. It is speculation, and I would love to tell you … I would love to answer more about that. But my lips are kind of sealed.”
He added that fan enthusiasm has motivated him throughout.
“The fan convention that I just came from in Minnesota … We were there to sign autographs, meet fans, but we did have a question‑answer on stage in front of 3,000 attendees and I thought we were rockstars too so much so like I walked off stage thinking, ‘Man I am gonna get a personality hangover out of those.’ That was a lot of love.”
That energy seems to have carried over to his Fallon appearance, where the actor’s excitement and humility reminded audiences why his comeback has drawn such affection.
As production gears up, Fraser’s mix of humor and gratitude suggests he is ready to step once again into the adventure that first made him an international star.
