A former nanny who worked for Kate Gosselin has backed Collin Gosselin’s abuse allegations, claiming she personally witnessed the reality star mistreating her son more than a decade ago. Kate has repeatedly denied Collin’s claims.

The woman, identified only as Ashley H., told People that she worked for Kate for six months. She said she served as both a cleaner and a fill-in nanny for Kate’s eight children.

The family includes twins Mady and Cara, along with sextuplets Collin, Alexis, Joel, Leah, Aaden and Hannah. Ashley claimed Kate’s behavior toward Collin stood apart from her treatment of the other children.

“She very much outwardly treated Collin different,” Ashley claimed. She added, “She 110% abused Collin. It's hard to almost put into words the specific hate that she had towards Collin. You could just feel it. I saw her grab Collin many, many times.”

Ashley said she stopped working for Kate after six months and contacted Children and Youth Services to report her concerns. She also claimed that she was not the only person who contacted the agency.

“I know for a fact that I was not the only one who did that. I want to use this opportunity to not only back Collin that his mom was psychologically abusive to him, not to mention the physical,” Ashley said.

“I didn't understand how somebody could be so nasty, downright evil and nasty to their own kids,” she continued. The Daily Mail contacted both Kate and Collin for comment.

Ashley’s allegations surfaced after Collin, now 22, detailed his childhood in his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood. He accused Kate of subjecting him to physical and mental abuse, allegations she has denied.

Collin wrote that the alleged mistreatment began “in the emotional space” before becoming physical. He described alleged slaps to his face and sharp pulls on his ear, claiming the strikes left bruises.

“It was always the same side of my face that carried the evidence. It would turn purple, bruised, tender to the touch, marks that faded just in time to be replaced by new ones,” Collin wrote.

He also repeated previous allegations that he was forced to live in a “locked basement,” where he slept on an air mattress and was watched through a camera. Collin further claimed that a Children and Youth Services investigation began after he arrived at school in pain following an alleged incident involving his ear.

Kate sent Collin to a residential behavioral health facility in 2016, shortly before his twelfth birthday. He remained there for two years before moving in with his father, Jon Gosselin, on a full-time basis.

Kate has said Collin displayed “unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies” toward his siblings and had “received multiple psychiatric diagnoses.” Collin was diagnosed with autism, ADHD, and bipolar, but a clinical psychologist who examined him again as an adult found no current psychiatric or behavioral problems.

Earlier this month, Kate responded to his allegations in a TikTok comment. “I know rational and logical people or anyone who has dealt with mental illness understands what's going on here,” she wrote.

Kate denied the accusations again in another TikTok comment posted this week, writing, “I know who I am and my kids know who I truly am and to me, that's all that matters.” She has also claimed that her status as a public figure makes pursuing legal action difficult.

In 2023, Kate told People that Collin had received multiple psychiatric diagnoses and entered a facility after years of outpatient treatment. She called him “a very troubled young man who continues to need a lot of help.”

The Gosselin family became famous through the TLC reality series Jon & Kate Plus 8, which followed Kate and Jon as they raised their twins and sextuplets. After the couple split, the series continued as Kate Plus 8 until its cancellation in 2017.

Jon received full custody of Hannah in 2016 and Collin in 2018. Collin is estranged from siblings Aaden, Alexis, Joel, Leah, Madelyn, and Cara, and is currently appearing on season five of Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.
