JD Rucker is calling on Senate Minority Leader John Thune to eliminate the filibuster and move immediately on the Save America Act, arguing that Republicans may lose their opportunity to pass the legislation once control of the Senate changes hands.
Rucker said Thune has run out of reasons to delay and warned that the party’s long-term ability to regain Senate control could depend on action in the remaining months.
"John Thune has officially run out of excuses, and he's running out of time. He must remove the filibuster, pass the Save America Act, as well as a whole bunch of other legislation that's been sitting on his desk waiting for him to act," Rucker said.
He argued that Republicans will soon no longer control the chamber and said the political consequences could last for years if the Save America Act is not enacted before then.
"They are no longer going to be in control in the next couple of months, and when that happens, America is in deep trouble if the Save America Act is not passed. I've looked at the maps. So have many other people. I've looked at the math. I've looked at what the future holds. And here's the thing: without the Save America Act, Republicans will not regain control of the Senate for years, possibly decades. That is not hyperbole. That is math, as John Thune likes to always point out, well, there is no reason, there is no excuse to not do it."
Rucker rejected the argument that Republicans should preserve the filibuster because they may need it while serving in the minority.
"You think, oh, we want to preserve the filibuster for the next two months so that Democrats can remove it either immediately, so they can put legislation on President Trump's desk for him to veto, or they might just wait until there's a Democrat in the White House. Either way, the next viable opportunity for them to remove the filibuster, they will do it."
He cited the departures of Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema and argued that Sen. John Fetterman would not be enough to stop Democrats from eliminating the rule in the future.

"Joe Manchin is gone. Kristen Sinema is gone. John Fetterman isn't enough to stop them. So don't give me any excuses whatsoever."
Rucker then made Thune’s future leadership position part of his argument, saying the South Dakota Republican should use whatever political leverage is available to secure the votes needed.
"If John Thune wants to be Senate Minority Leader, then he has to get this done. He has to do whatever is necessary to pressure any of the holdouts."
He specifically named Sen. Susan Collins, who lost her election, and said she should support the effort before leaving office.

"Susan Collins lost her election. Fine. Is she? She wants to go out with a bang and do the right thing. Awesome. If she doesn't, then we need to call her out. John Thune needs to start. President Trump needs to help, and the rest of us need to call her out, demonize her if necessary. I think that she will get on board."
Rucker also directed pressure toward Sen. Lisa Murkowski and argued that her future committee assignments should depend on whether she supports the legislation.
"If Lisa Murkowski wants to have any Senate be on any good committees in the future? She better get on board. And with those two, that should be enough."
He said he did not expect support from Thom Tillis or Mitch McConnell and also named John Cornyn and Bill Cassidy among Republicans he believes could oppose the effort.
"We're not going to get Tom Tillis. He's just bitter. We're not going to get Mitch McConnell. He's not really even there. And if John Cornyn or Bill Cassidy or any of the other butt hurt rhinos want to try to oppose it, same thing that we would do to Susan Collins, we will do to them."
Rucker went further, calling for sustained protests against senators who block the legislation and against businesses that later employ them.
"We will make sure that their private, private citizen life is hard. We will protest them. We will protest anybody who wants to hire them. We must. The nation is at stake."
He framed the current moment as a political setback rather than a final defeat and warned that failing to pass the Save America Act could have consequences far beyond the latest election.
"We didn't lose the nation with the election. We got hurt, but the war is not over. If John Thune does not do the right thing, and pass the Save America Act now, then that's more than just a battle. That could be the whole war."
Rucker closed by making his support for Thune’s future role as Senate minority leader conditional on whether the legislation advances.
"Do the right thing, sir. We will support you. Semi-reluctantly, for Senate Minority Leader, if you do this, if you don't, you're done."
