Summer is finally upon us, which means millions of Americans are spending as much time outside as possible. While much of summer is fun and games, one of the few downsides is battling pesky bug bites. These bites can sometimes come along with strange and uncomfortable symptoms.

The better you are at identifying these symptoms, the easier they will be to treat. That's why we've compiled eight of the most common bug bites and the ways you can identify them!

Ticks

Ticks are so sly that you likely will not feel them latch on. Their bites causes redness that stretches out a few centimeters around a small black or red dot. If you notice the bite, remove the tick as soon as possible, as these bugs can carry dangerous diseases like Lyme's disease.

Mosquitoes

Chances are that you have had experience this bite, which results in swollen red ridges on your skin. Try and leave this itchy bite alone, because the more you scratch it, the worse it will feel!

Wasps

This type of bite is very painful, and the stings are extremely itchy. The bites tend to leave marks wider than a mosquito, and you'll be able to see where the insect made contact with your skin.

Red Ant

Though most ants are harmless, red ants are anything but that! Their bite releases a toxin that may cause allergic reactions, and you will instantly be in a great deal of pain.

Horsefly

This bite hurts a lot, so you will notice as soon as you are bitten. They leave behind a large mark that causes swelling and sometimes blisters, and you may also start to feel dizzy.

Bedbugs 

These bugs are a huge headache, as they are difficult to get rid of once they are in your home. Their bites are often mistaken for mosquito bites, and the symptoms that stem from them include redness, swelling, and puss.

This bug stereotypically goes after pets, but they can actually target humans as well. Their bites are easy to spot because they will bite several times. Itchier than mosquito bites, they'll look and feel like small, hard red balls on your skin.

Deer Flies

This bite is extremely painful and will cause red bumps to appear. This fly transmits the disease Rabbit Fever, so if you start experiencing skin ulcers, fever or a headache after you are bitten, go to the hospital immediately.
