Rep. Ilhan Omar broke her silence Monday after Homeland Security Investigations agents raided her Washington residence, declaring that the law enforcement action represented another attempt by President Trump to intimidate a political opponent.

The Minnesota Democrat and prominent member of the “Squad” issued a statement on X after agents executed a search warrant at her home. Omar, 44, directly accused Trump of targeting political enemies through federal authorities.

“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar said. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”

Omar followed that lengthy accusation with a blunt personal response to the president. “I will not be silenced,” the congresswoman added.

Her Democratic allies quickly rallied around her, portraying the raid as political persecution rather than a legitimate law enforcement action. Fellow “Squad” member Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan immediately reached for the fascism label.

“DHS raiding a member of Congress’s home is exactly what a fascist police state does,” Tlaib wrote in an X post. Her statement echoed Omar’s contention that the search was intended to frighten and silence the congresswoman.

Omar spokesperson Jacklyn Rogers also defended her boss and insisted that the congresswoman had committed no wrongdoing. Rogers connected the raid to Trump’s public criticism of Omar over the past decade.

“For a decade, Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric, repeatedly putting a target on her back,” Rogers said. “Now, those attacks have escalated to a pointless federal raid.”

Homeland Security Investigations agents were seen carrying boxes of materials from Omar’s home in Northeast Washington after executing the warrant during the early morning. The activity startled some people living nearby.

One neighbor recalled hearing “loud banging” on the congresswoman’s door at approximately 4 or 5 a.m. The neighbor also described hearing a man repeatedly demand that the door be opened.

Sources familiar with the law enforcement action said Omar had been the subject of an investigation lasting multiple years and related to her immigration history. The probe could potentially involve a false statement allegedly made by her father on paperwork.

Omar could potentially face denaturalization if investigators determine that false statements were submitted on immigration forms. Such a process would likely take years and prompt a legal challenge.

Trump administration officials previously suggested that Omar was being investigated over allegations that she fraudulently married her brother to assist him in obtaining a green card. Omar has repeatedly denied those allegations.

The congresswoman has never been charged with a crime related to immigration. The raid, however, placed new attention on allegations that have followed her while also producing an immediate political clash between Omar, her allies, and Trump.

Homeland Security Investigations is conducting the probe and serves as the primary investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security. Agents executing the search were observed removing multiple boxes.

Omar was born in Somalia and received United States citizenship at age 17 in 2000. She is currently seeking reelection on Nov. 3 for what would be her fifth term representing Minnesota in the United States House.

Monday’s search prompted Omar and her allies to frame the investigation as intimidation, while the law enforcement action concerned questions about immigration paperwork. For Omar, the public response was unmistakably defiant, culminating in her five-word declaration that she would not be silenced.
