Oprah Winfrey addressed online criticism following a viral video that showed her walking alongside Gayle King at Paris Fashion Week, after some social media users mocked the pair for appearing unsteady, as reported by Fox News.

The 72-year-old media personality responded in a video clip shared on Instagram Friday, explaining the circumstances behind the moment that drew attention online.

Winfrey said she had difficulty seeing due to the sunglasses she was wearing at the time and noted that King was dealing with an injury.

“On the internet, somebody was, you know how people drag you on the internet. So they were dragging me and Gayle [King] saying, ‘Look at them walking like they’re 90 years old,'” Winfrey said in the clip.

She described arriving at the Chloe fashion show earlier this month and said her assistant handed her a pair of Chloe sunglasses just before she exited her vehicle. Winfrey clarified that the glasses were not prescription.

“And so there was a moment where we’re walking into the Chloe fashion show and my [assistant] had just handed me the Chloe sunglasses before I got out of the car,” she said.

Winfrey added that the sunglasses limited her ability to see clearly as she walked.

“I didn’t know where I was walking, I could not see,” she explained while laughing.

“So everybody who’s saying ‘you’re walking like you’re 90,’ I could not see! I told security, ‘I can’t see. I can’t see. Tell me, tell me where I’m walking. I can’t see.'”

She also said King was dealing with an injury at the time.

“And Gayle’s like, ‘I got two broken toes. I can’t walk,'” Winfrey said. “And that’s the reason we looked like we were 90 years old is because I couldn’t see and Gayle’s got two broken toes!”

The video prompted reactions from viewers online, with some users responding to Winfrey’s explanation.

“She is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and funny,” one user commented on the clip.

“Watching the video after Oprah’s explanation makes it funnier. She couldn’t see!” another wrote.

The appearance took place during Paris Fashion Week, where Winfrey attended the Chloe runway show. She was photographed wearing high-waisted jeans, a cream-colored top, and a brown jacket.

The outfit was paired with Chloe sunglasses, a white purse, and closed-toe high-heeled shoes, with her hair styled in a high ponytail.

The event also marked a recent public appearance where Winfrey’s physical transformation drew attention. She has spoken publicly in recent years about her weight loss journey.

After trying multiple diets, participating in Weight Watchers, and exploring other approaches, Winfrey said in 2023 that she began taking GLP-1 weight loss medication.

In an interview with People in December 2025, she discussed her decision and her perspective on weight management.

“If you have obesity in your gene pool, I want people to know it’s not your fault,” Winfrey said.

“I want people to stop blaming yourself for genes and an environment you can’t control. I want people to have the information, whatever you choose to do with it, whether you get the medications, or whether you want to keep dieting.”

She also described changes she experienced after starting the medication.

Winfrey said she began feeling like “everything is just calmer and stronger” as she received assistance in controlling “the messages that are being sent to your brain about overeating.”

Her comments come as discussions surrounding weight loss treatments, including GLP-1 medications, continue to draw attention in public health and entertainment circles.
