Steve Knopp was recently driving through the woods with his friends when something caught his eye that had him slamming on the brakes. Steve was stunned to see a baby fawn lying in the middle of the street.
The fawn appeared to be "hiding" around it's body in a way that indicated it was terrified, and that something was very wrong.

Steve stopped the car and approached the fawn with his friends. When they looked around, they noticed the fawn's mother staring at them from the nearby woods. As Steve got closer to the fawn, he noticed that it was still breathing, and that's when he did something perhaps not advisable but it was heroic nonetheless.

Steve knew that if the fawn was going to survive, he would have to act fast. Taking a risk, he gently picked up the fawn so that he could return it to it's mother in the woods.

Though Steve saved the fawn's life, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has warned that newborns should be left alone if you find them in situations like this one.

"The advice to anyone encountering a fawn lying quietly alone in the woods is to leave it alone. Mother will be nearby and will be taking care of it once you move away," officials said. "If you have handled the fawn, rub an old towel in the grass and wipe the fawn to remove human scent. Using gloves, return the fawn to where it was found. Fawns can often be returned to their mothers if taken back to where they were found within eight hours."
"If a fawn appears cold, weak, thin, or injured, and its mother does not return in approximately eight hours, it may be orphaned," officials added. "In such a case, you can call a local rehabilitator (look under 'Animal' or 'Wildlife' in your phone directory)."

Regardless, we're glad to see that Steve did what it took to reunite the fawn with it's mother! Watch the rescue below, and SHARE this story so your friends and family can see this as well!
