Many people harbor a fear of snakes, but for most, these fears remain distant and abstract, far removed from everyday life.
However, for Robbie Knills, an Australian resident, this fear has taken on a much more tangible form.
Knills recently experienced a startling encounter with a large snake, an event that has since become a routine part of his life.
Knills was simply going about his day, hanging up his laundry outside, when he spotted a massive snake scaling the side of his house.
Quick to react, he grabbed his phone to document the unnerving sight.

"I didn’t know they could climb houses like that – five minutes later and I would have got the scare of my life," Knills recounted. "I am glad it was me hanging out the washing because the wife would probably never do it again if it was her."
The snake wasn’t entirely unfamiliar to Knills. He had seen it before and knew it resided nearby.

"He has lived in the rafters of the shed for about six months, but with this warmer weather, he has woken up a bit and decided to look for food," he explained.

This wasn’t the first time Knills had noticed signs of the snake's presence. In fact, he suspects the snake may have even claimed one of his pets as a meal. "I was looking after a butcher bird that had a broken wing and was feeding him, but he has gone missing," he lamented.
Describing the snake, Knills said, "He is closer to three meters long when he’s stretched out and not all flexed-up."
Despite the snake’s impressive size and potentially dangerous nature, Knills has grown accustomed to its presence. "I freaked out the first time I saw him, but then, after a while, I got used to it."

While many would find it impossible to coexist with such a fearsome creature, Knills has managed to strike a balance with his unexpected houseguest.
"He just hangs out. He comes out and sees me when I’m working in the shed," Knills said, describing the unusual arrangement. "I don’t trouble him, and he doesn’t trouble me."
It’s clear that Knills has a remarkable tolerance for his slithery neighbor, a tolerance that many might find difficult to understand.
His calm acceptance of the snake’s presence is a testament to his bravery and perhaps his understanding of the local wildlife. However, for most people, the idea of sharing their living space with a massive snake would be far from comforting.

Knills’ story is a reminder of the unique challenges that come with living in regions where wildlife is an everyday reality.
While his reaction may seem extraordinary to some, it also highlights an important aspect of living in harmony with nature.
Understanding and respecting wildlife, even when it comes a little too close for comfort, is a crucial part of coexisting in environments where human and animal territories overlap.
So, the next time you’re doing your laundry or working in the shed, take a moment to appreciate the relative calm of your surroundings.
