Stone made the comments on Wednesday while appearing on SiriusXM’s “Radio Andy,” where she reflected on filming the 1995 crime thriller directed by Martin Scorsese.
The actress, now 68, described a scene in which her character, Ginger McKenna, shares a kiss with De Niro’s character.

“We did this scene where I have to go to the bathroom, and because I play this hustler, I get him to give me money to go,” Stone said.
She described how the scene unfolded, explaining, “He gives me this money, and I look at him like, ‘Really? I think a little more than $50 for the bathroom.’ ”
Stone continued, “And he … reaches in and he gives me, like, $100, and then I lean over, and I kiss him.”
The actress said the moment left a lasting impression.
She described De Niro, now 82, as having “kissed me out of [her] shoes” during filming. According to Stone, the scene was so effective that Scorsese initially told the actors he had what he needed, but left the door open for another take.

Stone recalled the response from both actors:
“We both looked at him and went, ‘Yeah, I think maybe we need one more.’ ”
Her recent remarks follow similar comments she made in 2020 during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” where she also named De Niro as “for sure” and “far and away the best kisser” she had worked with in Hollywood.
At the time, Stone said the scene stood out because of her professional admiration for De Niro.
“It was [with] the actor that I admired the most. And my whole career … I just wanted to be able to sit across the table from Robert De Niro and hold my own,” she said.
She added that her feelings about working alongside De Niro influenced the scene.
“There was just so much attached to it, but I was just so madly in love with him,” Stone said.
“He probably could have hit me in the head with a hammer and I would have been like, ‘Oh yeah!’ ”
When asked about the worst on-screen kiss of her career during that same interview, Stone declined to name anyone but offered a general comparison.
“[De Niro] was pretty fabulous so I don’t know that I could compare anything else. … Everything else was kind of like, meh,” she said.
Stone has also discussed her working relationship with De Niro beyond the kissing scene. In an interview last year with Business Insider, she said the actor pushed her during filming in ways that elevated her performance.
“He knew every button to go for with me because he is the greatest observational actor,” Stone said. “He can crawl under your skin and get in there.”
She added that he “crossed a line” and “challenged” her in a scene to help bring out a stronger performance.

De Niro has not publicly responded to Stone’s comments about his on-screen work or her repeated praise over the years.
